Bread Machine Buttermilk Bread

Want a great bread machine bread using AP flour? This is it! Makes a 2 # loaf!

Equipment

  • 1 Bread Machine

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups Buttermilk Room Temperature
  • 3 Tbsp Butter Room Temperature
  • 1 egg slightly beaten Room Temperature
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 4 1/4 Cups All Purpose Flour plus more for working the dough
  • 2 Tbsp Active Dry Yeast
  • Olive oil as needed

Instructions

  • Add ingredients in the order listed to your bread maker.
  • Use the dough cycle.
  • When the machine is done, remove the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for a few minutes. Shape into a ball and place it into a lightly oiled bowl (flip the dough over so whole ball of dough has a very light film of oil). Cover with plastic film and let rise in a warm place until double in size. - about an hour.
  • Punch the dough down and knead a few times. Shape as you would like to bake and put the shaped dough into appropriate (for your purposes) baking pan. Cover and let rise again until doubled in size - about an hour
  • bake @350° for 30 - 35 minutes
  • Remove from oven, wipe top with butter and let rest in the pan for 5 minutes
  • Remove loaf from pan and let cool completely before cutting or wrapping up.
